Nelly Kamphuis
As a child in the Netherlands I learned to knit, embroider, crochet, draw and sculpt with plasticine. Later, in Canada, I continued with these crafts, sewed many garments for my family and also became involved in quilting. At first it was all traditional handwork to create heirloom quilts. Then, through taking workshops, I discovered the fascinating world of fabric dyeing, painting, stamping, embellishing, and many other techniques that lead to my own designs, building on the age old traditions.
There is a joy in being aware of my surroundings right down to the tiniest detail, especially in nature, to inspire my creativity.
